AEM’s X-Series Inline Wideband UEGO Air/Fuel Ratio Controllers are built upon a 100% digital technology that makes them the fastest responding wideband air/fuel ratio controllers in independent tests*. The X-Series Wideband UEGO Air/Fuel Ratio Controller replaces the popular 30-2310 inline controller.

The X-Series Inline Wideband UEGO Controller features a weather-resistant, low-profile enclosure with an integrated LED status light. It is ideal for users who do not need a gauge display and want the fastest response time for data logging or for feedback control when tuning with an engine management system.

The X-Series Inline Controller includes a 0-5V and RS232 serial port output for feedback control and data logging, and an AEMnet (CANbus) output for data logging and daisy-chaining multiple X-Series Controllers (up to 16 cylinders) to log AFR in multiple cylinders. It supports vehicle/system voltages up to 16V and can be used in EFI or carbureted applications, and on dynamometers for gasoline, methanol, ethanol, diesel, propane, and CNG engines.

WHY RESPONSE TIME MATTERS

Faster response time improves wideband feedback control and provides for a safer, more powerful, and more accurate tune. AEM wideband controllers with X-Series digital technology reduce dead time and improve vehicle performance by more accurately tuning AFR. Dead time is the delay between the change in exhaust gas composition and that change being reported by the O2 sensor. While exhaust gas flow (transport delay) can affect dead time, it is not the only cause. Often, the response of the sensing elements to gases is the primary contributor to dead time when the engine is operating at high RPM under load.

When tuning an engine using wideband AFR feedback control on an inertia dyno, dead time affects the data being observed, as it is logged at a different operating location than when it actually occurred. This means that, with extended dead time, any changes that are made to the base fuel map will likely be made in the wrong location. This can be particularly dangerous for high-compression, high-boost forced induction vehicles and for EFI systems that use feedback control for auto-tuning.
