AEM DIESEL WATER/METHANOL INJECTION SYSTEM ADVANTAGES

Water/Methanol Injection (WMI) systems reduce air inlet temperatures and improve combustion efficiency in turbocharged diesel engines, which allows for the engine to deliver more power with less effort. Water/Methanol injection also offers a number of benefits that promote longer engine life, including the reduction of carbon deposits created by a diesel's Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system. AEM’s Water/Methanol Injection systems for turbo diesel trucks and SUVs utilize the most robust hardware combined with more advanced features than any other comparably priced WMI system.
Water/Methanol for any Boosted Diesel Application

AEM Electronics offers two different water/methanol controller designs for diesel and heavy-duty trucks:

One is a boost-dependent heavy-duty controller, with an on-board MAP sensor (up to 40 PSI) and molded nipple for boost hose tap (PN 30-3301 w/ 5-gallon tank, PN 30-3303 no tank).

The second heavy-duty controller features a multiple-input design. This controller can be programmed to work with a 0-5V signal from an external MAP sensor for diesels running more than 40 PSI of boost, or a frequency-based Injector Duty Cycle (IDC) signal, a frequency-based mass air flow (MAF) sensor, or a 0-5V voltage-based MAF signal (PN 30-3351 w/ 5-gallon tank, PN 30-3352 no tank).
Robust, Easy to Use Controllers

New HD controllers feature large, turn-resistant knobs and larger numbering for an easy setup of start and full activation points with accuracy. They also include a status LED and test buttons for added splash resistance. The HD controller housings incorporate a plug for mating to the positive-lock connector on the re-designed wiring harness. The boost-dependent HD controller (PN 30-3301 w/ 5-gallon tank, PN 30-3303 full kit without tank) housing features a molded barb nipple to accept a boost hose (up to 40 PSI) and a wiring diagram on the back. The multiple-input controller (PN 30-3351 w/ 5-gallon tank, PN 30-3352 full kit without tank) features an easy-to-remove plug covering programming dip switches and a programming diagram on the back for the 0-5V and frequency-based settings. Both controller housings include an easy-to-access integrated fuse and molded mounting tabs. Simplified Wiring

AEM’s Water/Methanol Injection kit wiring harnesses are terminated with a positive-lock connector on one end and have color-coded wires to ease installation. Both the power and ground wires for the pump are included in the harness, which simplifies the wiring process and eliminates any chance of the pump accidentally activating from a short in the system. An additional wire is included for adding an optional on/off solenoid to stop fluid flow when the system is inactive.

Integrated Boost Safe Feature

The controllers for AEM’s Water/Methanol systems include an integrated “Boost Safe” output feature that monitors the entire injection system and triggers a ground signal via an output if it detects a voltage-related error (short, bad connection, broken wire, overheated pump, high or low voltage signal, etc.). This allows users to define their failsafe strategy, from something as simple as turning on a warning light to more advanced strategies like retarding timing or boost, or changing fuel maps on a standalone engine management system. Combined with the integral and highly accurate conductive fluid level switch in the tank, the “Boost Safe” system can also put the engine into a safe mode before the system runs out of fluid. This exclusive feature is found only on AEM Water/Methanol Injection Systems.

Heavy-Duty High Pressure Injection Pump

AEM’s internally bypassed water/methanol injection pump does not cycle on and off and provides a smooth, quiet operation. It features robust construction, including integral hose fittings, EPDM seals, and a Santoprene diaphragm that provides consistent and reliable fluid delivery.

5 Gallon Low-Profile Tank

AEM Diesel Water/Methanol systems are available with or without a 5-gallon low-profile tank. The 5-gallon tank includes a high-tech conductive low-fluid level indicator with a positive-lock connector and color-matched wires to the wiring harness, plus baffles to reduce fluid slosh.
Machined Billet Injectors and Nozzles

AEM includes two precision-machined billet-aluminum injectors in its diesel Water/Methanol injection kits that feature an integrated check valve to prevent unintended fluid flow. Three machined billet-aluminum injector nozzles are included to tailor water/methanol flow to your engine’s power (see chart below).

Revised Flow Control Strategy for more Linear Fluid Delivery

AEM’s engineers spent a lot of time revamping the water/methanol HD controller’s flow control strategy for a more linear flow delivery. This means that the flow output is more closely matched to the engine’s need for water/methanol injection, which further improves intake air cooling and exhaust gas temperature (EGT) reduction.

Boost Dependent and Multi-Input HD controllers (external 0-5v MAP or frequency MAF/MAF) feature large adjustment knobs, integrated harness connection, integrated fuse, protected status light & test button for added splash resistance, plus molded mounting tabs.

Wiring harness is terminated with a positive-lock connector on one end, with color-coded wires to ease installation, integrated pump ground circuit, and additional wire for optional on/off solenoid.

Includes “Boost Safe” output safety feature (for total safety in all conditions, see water/methanol failsafe device).

Heavy-duty high-pressure injection pump features integral fittings, Santoprene diaphragm and EPDM seals to resist corrosion. Our pump’s smooth, quiet operation is virtually undetectable.

Two precision-machined billet-aluminum injectors, with integral check valves, include multiple nozzles to cover a wide range of horsepower.

Reduces Air Charge Temp

The “liquid intercooling” effect of water/methanol on turbo diesel engines can reduce air charge temps by as much as 100-degrees and provide a more oxygen-rich air charge.

Improves Combustion & Efficiency

In addition to cooling inlet temp, as water absorbs heat in the combustion chamber and turns to steam, the expansion rate of the steam increases the effective average cylinder pressure without causing dangerous pressure spikes. This effective increase in cylinder pressure, combined with the promotion of complete combustion by methanol, allows your diesel engine to burn fuel more completely. When fuel burns more completely, less is wasted, which can increase fuel efficiency.

REDUCES EXHAUST GAS TEMP (EGT)

Because diesel vehicles using water/methanol injection burn fuel more completely, there is less unburnt fuel in the exhaust manifold, where sudden ignition can occur that spikes EGTs and creates particulates (soot). Water/methanol injection eliminates this secondary combustion of raw fuel in the exhaust manifold to reduce EGTs by as much as 250-degrees and decrease harmful particulates, which will lengthen engine life (and that expensive particulate filter).
