PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Special competition edition for the EA113, with 3 additional holes in the crankshaft for better torque transmission and to prevent crankshaft fixing bolt failure to the flywheel.
3 additional holes need to be drilled in the crankshaft to take full advantage of this flywheel, but it can also be installed using only the 6 original holes.
*Important*: to machine your crankshaft, you must send it to our headquarters.
The world's first chromoly DSG DQ250 dual-mass flywheel offers high performance, maximum durability, improved throttle response, and absolute precision balancing.
Introduction and advantages of the RTMG PERFORMANCE dual-mass flywheel
Another innovation in DSG automatic transmission systems from RTMG PERFORMANCE. The advantages of a dual-mass flywheel compared to previous generation single-mass flywheels are significant. The importance of having two masses in the flywheel lies in smoothing out the explosions generated by the combustion of the pistons during the third firing stroke.
In a four-cylinder TSI or TFSI engine, four powerful combustions occur in a complete cycle of 720 degrees (two rotations), which corresponds to the engine's power. These piston explosions, which generate reciprocating motion, are transformed into rotational motion via the crankshaft, and this motion is then transferred to the flywheel. The dual-mass flywheel acts as a damper for these vibrations. Through its springs, it prevents the maximum combustion forces from being transmitted to the gearbox.
By smoothing out these forces, a fluid power transmission from the engine to the gearbox is achieved, which extends the life of the components and prevents gear wear. The manufacturer designed the dual-mass flywheel for DQ250 gearboxes to withstand up to 420 Nm of torque in daily use.
But what happens beyond that? When the engine torque exceeds 420 Nm, the factory flywheel springs reach their limit, and combustion forces exceeding this point put the entire drivetrain under great stress: from the crankshaft and bolts to the gears, shafts, and ultimately, the tires. The factory flywheel was not designed to handle hybrid setups or large turbochargers, slick tires for hard launches, or 10,000 RPM.
As automotive performance enthusiasts and having experienced repeated problems with DQ250 transmissions in our own 2.0 TFSI race car, we decided to look for a solution. Our engineers' philosophy is to design something that improves performance with better mechanisms and materials. In the new flywheel we designed, we set a high standard in terms of quality, durability, and lifespan, allowing it to withstand engine torque between 770 Nm and 1200 Nm. It was tested and developed in our own race car.
Proof of its success? In 2022, we managed to break the European record with a time of 7.8 seconds using a 2.0L TSI engine, reaching nearly 300 km/h at Santa Pod Raceway, England. This achievement motivated us to invest even more in this product, as it guaranteed smooth operation without damaging the transmission, leading us to become European champions.
Our latest version is made of high-strength chromoly steel (42CrMo4) and the splines are heat-treated for maximum durability. The springs are twice as strong as factory ones, but the key improvement lies in their progressive design. The initial springs are softer, allowing the flywheel to operate smoothly at lower loads. Another advantage over the factory flywheel is that ours is modular, meaning it can be repaired or upgraded for even more torque if needed.
The new floating design prevents the springs from coming into contact with the moving masses, ensuring smooth operation and a longer lifespan for the assembly. For those seeking maximum performance, each component is dynamically balanced to 0.01 G, and the total weight is 20% less than the factory flywheel. Additionally, internal Teflon components make our dual-mass flywheel more stable at high RPMs, preventing resonances and lateral vibrations.
Another very important advantage of our reinforced flywheel is that, since the reinforced springs do not fully compress under higher than factory torques, bolt breakage between the flywheel and the crankshaft is prevented, as all impact forces are absorbed by the reinforced springs. The springs operate in a lubricated environment, ensuring that the entire assembly works harmoniously during accelerations and decelerations, both in competition conditions and daily use.
Welcome to the new generation of high-performance products from RTMG PERFORMANCE.
It features stiffer springs than factory ones, receiving more torque, which helps the transmission system in extreme conditions.
It is divisible, which facilitates its maintenance over time.
Dynamic balancing of 0.01g allows for maximum power at high RPMs. Tested on the IBIZA 2.0L with EA888 engine and DQ250 transmission, with a time of 7 seconds.
Designed and manufactured in Greece with a high-tech 5-axis CNC machine.
Weight: 8.20 kg
For a perfect fit on the crankshaft, and due to frequent wear of the crankshaft guide, the flywheel comes with a slightly smaller hole (0.02 mm). It may require slight sanding for optimal fit. Precise fit between the flywheel and the crankshaft is crucial at high RPMs, as it ensures perfect balance of the assembly.
ATTENTION: IT IS ALREADY BALANCED WITH AN ADVANCED BALANCING METHOD. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO BALANCE THE FLYWHEEL AND REMOVE MATERIAL!
* Recommended for daily and competition use with high turbo boost applications.
