What is a hybrid turbocharger and how did it become popular? The hybrid turbocharger became known many years ago when turbo repair shops, in order to repair damaged turbos, began using larger compressor wheels and shafts to conceal the damage caused by contact between the wheel and the housing. That's how it all started. After proper repair, many workshops noticed an increase in power, while others experienced a decrease due to poor workmanship or lack of knowledge. What is a hybrid turbocharger? Essentially, it is the same factory turbocharger, but with larger compressor and turbine wheels, allowing for greater airflow. Greater airflow, combined with more fuel, translates into more power. The main advantage of a well-built hybrid turbocharger is that it does not require additional modifications for a larger turbocharger, such as manifolds, oil lines, water pipes, air lines, or exhaust system modifications. These are great advantages that make the hybrid turbocharger an ideal upgrade when performed by professionals with the right CNC machines, reinforced bearings, dynamic balancing with a VSR machine (which dynamically balances with an accuracy of 0.01g), and performance testing before and after installation. It is the best value-for-money upgrade.

Attention: Factors for the correct functioning of the turbo

This turbo requires a larger cold air intake to operate efficiently.

An intercooler capable of handling higher airflow than the turbo's output is necessary.

Oil pressure must be maintained at 5 bar.
Correct ECU reprogramming is crucial for performance and reliability. Proper reprogramming prevents the intake throttle from closing, ensuring smooth operation.

The catalytic converter must be able to withstand more power than the turbocharger generates. Generally, a 100-cell metallic catalytic converter is recommended. Exhaust system specifications are optional but must match the turbocharger's capacity.

Oil quality and condition must meet high-performance standards.

It is essential to regularly check the air system pressure, maintaining it at at least 2 bar, to prevent turbocharger over-spinning.

A mechanical wastegate is recommended, as factory-installed valves may fail to close properly, leading to turbocharger over-spinning.
