PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
A boost pressure regulator is a device that controls the level of boost pressure in the intake manifold of a turbocharged engine. This is achieved by either acting on the air pressure supplied to the mechanical wastegate actuator or modifying it by means of a pressure relief valve before the actuator, allowing the turbo to generate higher pressure.
This is an excellent upgrade over the 2-port device found in many turbocharged vehicles. Manufactured by Pierburg, this high-quality 3-port N75 solenoid replaces the following OEM part numbers:
1227883
1M5O-9C728-AA
2M5O-9K378-AA
This boost solenoid can be used to replace the solenoids mentioned above. It can also be integrated into the Engine Control Unit (ECU) of an original turbocharged vehicle or an aftermarket electronic boost pressure controller.
In most cases, the best way to control a boost solenoid is through an independent ECU management system. This way, boost pressure control, as well as fuel injection and engine timing, can be adjusted to ensure optimal and safe operation.
Even with an electronic controller, overly soft actuator springs can lead to premature wastegate opening. Exhaust gas back pressure still puts pressure on the wastegate valve itself. This back pressure can overcome the spring pressure without the aid of the actuator. Electronic control allows boost pressure to be controlled up to more than double the rated spring pressure.
WARNING:
The installation of a boost solenoid is not intended for individuals without experience in engine tuning. Any boost pressure regulator, manual or electronic, must be installed with caution.
The Pierburg boost solenoid offers complete flexibility in boost pressure control when precise adjustments are required. Misuse or incorrect adjustment of this product can severely damage the engine! Boost pressure controllers must be configured via a map or on a car, motorcycle, or engine dynamometer to ensure that the air-fuel ratio (AFR) is maintained once boost pressure levels are set.
If you are unfamiliar with engine tuning and the operation of boost pressure controllers, DO NOT attempt to install this product to control your turbos' boost pressure. Always ensure that your engine manufacturer or a specialized mechanic reviews the installation and use of this product.
