The benefits are significant under high loads, as the plate is bolted externally to the engine block. This configuration helps to uniformly distribute the stress among the central bolts of the main bearing caps.\u003cbr\u003e\nFor example, if a pressure of 1000 N is applied to a crankshaft journal during combustion, this pressure would traditionally stress the four factory bolts on the two bearing caps, resulting in 1000 N \/ 4 = 250 N per bolt. With our plate, the pressure is distributed among twice as many bolts, reducing the load to approximately 1000 N \/ 8 = 125 N per bolt. Once the central caps are tightened, the plate should have a clearance of 0.04-0.06 mm from the block's perimeter. This preload increases the rigidity of the assembly.
