D8-6 Front Caliper
D8-6 front calipers are a direct bolt-on 6-piston replacement for the factory original 4-piston front calipers on all 1965-1982 Corvettes. Forged aluminum bodies, stainless steel pistons, and high-temperature seals provide an immediate performance upgrade and an extended service life over the factory original cast iron caliper design. The D8-6 calipers provide an increase in overall clamping force and a substantial pad area increase over the stock D8 caliper.
D8-6 calipers mount in the original location over the original rotors and utilize the original D8 type brake pads. These calipers will clear the 1967 and later rally type steel wheels and most of the later model alloy wheels. Original 1965-66 “JK” code steel wheels, and some aftermarket alloy wheel reproductions, require a 3/16” or thicker wheel spacer for proper clearance.
D8-6 calipers utilize the same overall piston volume as the original calipers but with the added advantage of differential bores. Differential bores counteract pad taper in high-temperature track day conditions and the 6-piston design provides increased pad support. Other than a new flex line with an 1/8”-27 NPT end for the new aluminum caliper, no other changes, such as master cylinder output or front to rear bias adjustment, are necessary. class="Gray11B">6Rotor Dimensions
