The stock system could best be described as the filling of an intercooler sandwich. It is no surprise that, being located directly between the radiator and the A\/C condenser, this tube-and-fin intercooler struggles to maintain proper temperatures. While this lighter core along with plastic end tanks might be suitable for mass production and casual street driving, it will struggle to keep intake air temperatures low during more spirited driving, especially after increasing boost pressure. The Mishimoto Performance Intercooler for the 2015+ Volkswagen MK7 Golf TSI\/GTI\/R, equipped with an arsenal of cooling technology, takes the place of the stock intercooler. Our engineers managed to incorporate a larger core, increasing total volume by 89% over the stock unit and raising external fin surface area by 162%. In addition to the larger core, our TIG-welded, all-aluminum intercooler features a more robust bar-and-plate construction for better heat dissipation. Furthermore, the cast aluminum end tanks are integrated with air-flow diverters to ensure the full use of the core. We replace the stock plastic pipes and rubber couplers with mandrel-bent aluminum piping and 5-layer silicone couplers.
