The motto of the pioneer of all hot hatches has always been that great things come in small packages. Now in its seventh generation, the 2015+ Golf TSI/GTI/R and its intercooler system are about to get a much-needed upgrade with the Mishimoto Performance Intercooler Kit. The stock system could best be described as the filling of an intercooler sandwich. It is no surprise that, being located directly between the radiator and the A/C condenser, this tube-and-fin intercooler struggles to maintain proper temperatures. While this lighter core along with plastic end tanks might be suitable for mass production and casual street driving, it will struggle to keep intake air temperatures low during more spirited driving, especially after increasing boost pressure. The Mishimoto Performance Intercooler for the 2015+ Volkswagen MK7 Golf TSI/GTI/R, equipped with an arsenal of cooling technology, takes the place of the stock intercooler. Our engineers managed to incorporate a larger core, increasing total volume by 89% over the stock unit and raising external fin surface area by 162%. In addition to the larger core, our TIG-welded, all-aluminum intercooler features a more robust bar-and-plate construction for better heat dissipation. Furthermore, the cast aluminum end tanks are integrated with air-flow diverters to ensure the full use of the core. In addition to the more robust intercooler, our performance intercooler kit for your 2015+ Golf or Audi A3/S3 includes our performance intercooler piping kit. We replace the stock plastic pipes and rubber couplers with mandrel-bent aluminum piping and 5-layer silicone couplers. Our piping increases the air channels to and from the intercooler to 2.75 inches, resulting in a 30% increase in flow. Together, our innovations for the MK7 intercooler system produced max power gains of 14.5 whp and 13 wtq on the stock tune. Additionally, our charged air cooler reduced intercooler outlet temperatures by 23°F.
