For good reason, virtually every elite professional engine builder relies on ARP Pro Series head studs for their competition engines. As mentioned, there is no better stud system on the market today. ARP uses a premium grade 8740 alloy, far superior to that used in the aerospace industry.

Each stud is vertically placed in special fixtures and undergoes precise heat treatment at 200,000 psi. This procedure ensures complete heat penetration. The results are far superior to the lower quality studs from other manufacturers who simply place the parts in a basket and hope for the best. Each stud is centerless ground after heat treatment, achieving near-perfect concentricity.

This process involves approximately ten very small cuts, resulting in an exceptionally straight part. Importantly, lower quality studs are not even centerless ground. The material is rolled by bar rolling (usually before heat treatment, when it is more accessible to the machine).

Thanks to the manufacturing precision of ARP studs, you will notice that gaskets and cylinder heads slide on easily and are perfectly aligned, which is not the case with lower quality studs.
