The catch can extracts oil and water condensation from the crankcase gases that would otherwise enter the intake manifold. This prevents oil buildup in the intake, intercooler system walls, throttle body, and intake manifold. This increases octane, can improve engine performance from cleaner intake air, and can reduce hydrocarbon emissions. The closed system prevents unwanted oil vapors from entering the cabin. Catch can kits include everything required for a complete installation.

FLUID LOCK® CATCH CANS

In 2022 Radium Engineering implemented a revolutionary design change to the standard 7oz catch can. Typical catch cans always presented an inherent problem when not regularly maintained: liquid contaminants would eventually make their way out of the can and dump into the air intake system, causing poor engine performance. To solve this problem, Radium created the Fluid Lock® Catch Can. This contains a patented mechanism that prevents the catch can from overflowing and retains collected fluids until emptied.

COLLECTION & EMPTYING

How fast your catch can will collect oil and moisture contaminants will vary from vehicle to vehicle, so there is no firm emptying interval. PCV system catch cans tend to collect more than CCV system catch cans. You should check your catch can level with the integrated dipstick starting 3-4 weeks of driving and repeat checking as needed to determine how frequently it should be emptied based on what you observe.

Catch cans can be emptied by unscrewing the lower can and removing it from the vehicle to empty, or in cases where under-can clearance is available, the petcock drain kit can be installed and used.

In cases where excessive oil accumulation is present, you may need to troubleshoot an issue with the engine. Reasons an oil separator may accumulate excessive oil include:

Excessive blow-by from engine damage

Oil slosh from an overfilled oil level

Poor breather port location and/or poor internal baffling

PCV valve that does not close and leaks under heavy load
