They do not vent to atmosphere (VTA), thus they are emissions compliant and track legal. Closed-loop systems recirculate clean, filtered air back into the engine for combustion and to promote negative crankcase pressure, thus achieving optimal performance. Additionally, closed systems prevent unwanted oil vapors from entering the cabin.\u003cbr\u003e\nThe 20-0097-FL crankcase catch can kit connects in-line with the 1\/2\" valve cover vent port. At low loads, it experiences atmospheric pressure, but when the engine is at high load (wide open throttle), this hose experiences vacuum and normally draws crankcase vapors, unburnt fuel, and oil sludge into the air filter intake tube. If the engine is turbocharged or supercharged and oil accumulation is observed in the intercooler, this catch can is indispensable, as oil reduces the thermal efficiency of the heat exchange process.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe 20-0098-FL PCV catch can kit includes two mounting brackets. One of the brackets is omitted if the crankcase vent kit is also used. This catch can connects in-line with the 3\/8\" PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) valve. When intake manifold pressure is near or above atmospheric pressure, the PCV check valve closes, and therefore this hose experiences no flow. Conversely, the PCV valve hose will experience a controlled vacuum when the engine is idling, cruising at low load, and decelerating. This would normally draw unwanted crankcase vapors, unburnt fuel, and oil sludge into the intake manifold immediately after high-load operation. Note: Since Radium catch cans are pressure sealed, they are also excellent for turbocharged applications, so connecting them to the intake manifold is permitted. For optimal engine protection, Radium recommends the S2000 20-0099-FL dual catch can kit (shown below), which uses both the crankcase and PCV valve catch cans.
