ATHENA Multi-Layer Steel (MLS) Gasket

Material
ATHENA MLS gaskets feature a combination of 3 to 5 layers made from different types of raw materials.

The combination of outer and inner layers is designed to offer superior performance to standard compression, and the type of steel used may vary according to engine requirements.
Athena MLS gaskets provide uniform clamp load across the entire sealing surface to compensate for any cylinder bore distortion.

The Athena MLS gasket is the ideal solution for both aluminum cylinder heads with cast iron blocks and aluminum cylinder heads with aluminum blocks.

Manufacturing Process
The newly designed Athena MLS head gaskets are made from high-strength, high-grade 301 stainless steel.
Each layer is individually formed by state-ofthe-art laser cutting and embossed with an optimized forming process.
Two layers of the head gasket undergo a stress-relieving process to significantly reduce stress induced by the embossing.
After the stress-relieving process, a proprietary two-component polymer coating is applied, ensuring uniform coverage of the outer layers, without interruptions in the coating. This process ensures micro-sealing of the engine's coolant and oil fluids.

Athena MLS gaskets are tested and analyzed on engine test benches and in endurance tests.

Gas Stopper Technology

Gas Stopper technology is a key factor in the design of competition MLS head gaskets. The stainless steel stopper layer incorporates an innovative active folding system that provides a high-pressure seal around the cylinder bore when the cylinder head is tightened. The gas stopper is located around the combustion chamber, allowing a tighter fit between the cylinder head and the engine block, preventing gas leaks.

This also prevents component deformation due to faster temperature equalization. Benefits

Proprietary Coating Technology

Our two-component polymer coating is applied after the stress-relieving process and ensures uniform coverage of the outer layers, without interruptions in the coating. This process ensures micro-sealing of the coolant/engine oil fluids and meets the demands of various harsh environments.

The first layer is a high-temperature compound that conforms to surface irregularities of the engine block and cylinder head. (Typical MLS head gaskets require a 30 Ra surface finish, while Athena gaskets seal surface finishes up to 60 Ra).

The second layer peels off easily and does not stick to contact surfaces when disassembling the engine.
