How to tell if your differential needs new bearings?

Characteristic differential/drivetrain noise occurs during acceleration and engine braking. To distinguish differential bearing noise from wheel bearing noise, turn the steering wheel left and right as if you were warming up your tires for a race. If the intensity of the noise changes, it's a wheel bearing issue. If the intensity of the noise remains the same, it means your differential bearings need to be replaced.
