Simply stated, there’s no better stud system

on the market today. ARP uses a premium grade 8740 alloy and a proprietary ARP2000 alloy exclusively, far superior to aircraft quality alloy steels. Each stud is also placed vertically
in special fixtures and heat-treated to a precise 190,000 psi for the 8740 material and 220,000 psi for the ARP2000 material. This procedure ensures complete heat penetration and the results are far superior to the lesser quality studs from other manufacturers, who simply pile parts in a basket and hope for the best. Importantly, lesser quality studs are not even centerless ground; material is threaded as bar stock (usually before heat treat, when the material is easier to machine). Because ARP studs are manufactured to such exacting tolerances, you’ll note that gaskets and cylinder heads literally glide into place and are perfectly aligned – something that won’t happen with inferior quality head studs.
Using studs makes it a lot easier to assemble the engine (especially a competition engine that has to be serviced frequently and quickly) because the cylinder head and gasket will be perfectly aligned.

Studs also provide more accurate and consistent torque loading. Here’s why: when you use bolts to secure the head, the fastener is actually “twisted” while it is being torqued to the proper specifications. Accordingly, the bolt is reacting to two different forces simultaneously. A stud should be installed finger tight – never crank it in with a jammed nut. Then, when you apply torque to the nut, the stud will stretch
only in the vertical axis. Remember that a shorter stud with a necked-down shank will have a similar stretch rate to a longer standard shank stud. This provides a more even clamping force on the head.

ARP® - Automotive Racing Products is a manufacturer of fasteners/bolts found in engines and driveline systems, from OEM replacement parts to specialty hardware for racing applications.
