Direct-injection engines, like the one in the 2016 Miata, suffer from accelerated carbon buildup due to the lack of port injection, which cleans the valves with fuel during engine operation. The engineers observed a significant oil film when examining the intake manifold. The oil was coming from the PCV system, contributing to carbon buildup and a decrease in octane. The new Mishimoto oil catch can system for the Miata prevents these blow-by gases from reaching the intake, resulting in a cleaner engine. The Mishimoto oil catch can kit for the Mazda Miata includes the Mishimoto compact 2-port baffled oil catch can, with a bronze filter and an internal baffle to better separate oil from crankcase vapors. Our oil catch cans differ from most air-oil separator (AOS) systems in several ways. First, our cans are not heated.
