Modern EFI fuel systems generate high-frequency pressure pulsations during injector operation. The Nuke Performance Fuel Pulsation Damper (FPD) is engineered to reduce these pulsations, achieving smoother fuel pressure and more consistent fuel delivery.

Designed for EFI fuel systems operating at a base fuel pressure between 40-110 PSI, the FPD110x combines a precision-machined aluminum body with an optimized diaphragm and spring assembly. The fully swiveling housing simplifies installation, while the integrated vacuum/boost reference keeps the diaphragm correctly positioned during fuel pressure changes.

What is a Fuel Pulsation Damper, and how does it work?

Every time a fuel injector opens and closes, it creates a small pressure pulsation within the fuel system. Individually, these pulsations are negligible, but combined, they create high-frequency pressure fluctuations that propagate through the fuel rail and lines. While typically too fast to be detected on a conventional fuel pressure gauge, they can influence fuel pressure stability, especially in high-performance EFI systems using large injectors and high-flow fuel pumps.

A fuel pulsation damper is designed to absorb these pressure fluctuations before they propagate throughout the fuel system. Using an internal diaphragm, the damper smooths out pressure variations, contributing to more stable fuel pressure, more consistent fuel delivery, and a fuel system that is easier to calibrate and tune.

How do I choose the right Fuel Pulsation Damper for my fuel system?

Choosing the right fuel pulsation damper starts with one measurement: the base fuel pressure. This pressure is measured with the fuel pump running and the vacuum hose disconnected from the pressure regulator.

FPD70s Standard Pressure Range Fuel Pulsation Damper

If the measured base fuel pressure falls between 40-70 PSI, the FPD70s Standard Pressure Range is the recommended choice for most Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) systems.

FPR110x Extended Pressure Range Fuel Pulsation Damper

If the base fuel pressure exceeds 70 PSI, choose the FPD110x Extended Pressure Range, designed for fuel systems that require operation outside the standard pressure range.

Both versions incorporate a vacuum/boost reference function, allowing the diaphragm to remain correctly positioned as the fuel pressure varies during engine operation. This ensures the diaphragm operates within its intended working range and provides consistent dampening performance across a wider pressure range.

Each Fuel Pulsation Damper includes a 5mm barb vacuum hose fitting and a blanking plug for installations where vacuum/boost reference is not required. For customers who prefer rigid plastic tubing, the optional 6mm Pneufit quick connector provides a quick, clean, and secure connection solution.

Where should a Fuel Pulsation Damper be installed?

For maximum effectiveness, a fuel pulsation damper should be installed as close to the fuel injectors as possible, as this is where pressure pulsations originate. Therefore, direct mounting to the fuel rail is the preferred solution whenever possible.

The AN-6 ORB and AN-8 ORB versions can also be directly mounted to the auxiliary ports of Nuke Performance fuel pressure regulators, allowing for a clean and compact installation without additional adapters or unnecessary plumbing.
